A sample memory

Hand-carved memento from Iguazu Falls — two stone parrots, one green-blue and one rose-white, perched on a wooden branch.
A dramatic contrast to crowded Niagara Falls

A momento of Iguazu Falls flora and fauna

After a 2 hour flight over jungle from Buenos Aires, our visit to Iguazu Falls on Feb 18, 2011 turned out to be a very pleasant surprise — and an unexpected major delight — for a number of reasons. Start with crowd sizes. Iguazu Falls’ 275 waterfalls get just a tenth of the visitors of Niagara Falls’ 3 waterfalls, in a space 50 times larger. In other words, you have plenty of private space to enjoy the nature of Iguazu. And Niagara Falls is far more commercialized and concrete, yet Iguazu facilities were first class, from the Sheraton Hotel food and services, to all of the many scenic walkways. All this in a peaceful green environment rare to find these days. It (now rebranded) remains the only hotel located within Iguazú National Park on the Argentine side, offering easy access to the massive falls, a short walk away. If we were to revisit, we’d stay at least a full week — it is just that terrific. A few photos we took follow.
